Unveiling RealBirth 4.0
At The Real Birth Company, we are committed to reducing health inequalities in maternity care and ensuring all pregnant women and people have better birthing outcomes. Over the past year, our team has worked amazingly to develop the latest version of RealBirth. On Friday, March 7th, marking a special celebration ahead of International Women’s Day, we proudly hosted our launch event in Manchester to unveil RealBirth 4.0.
This project has been an incredibly rewarding journey. We collaborated with women with lived experiences to raise awareness of key pregnancy-related conditions such as Low PAPP-A and Hyperemesis Gravidarum. RealBirth 4.0 introduces three new modules on Induction of Labour, Home Birth, and Perineal Injuries, alongside seventeen new personalisation features that allow pregnant women and birthing people to tailor their antenatal education for a truly bespoke experience.
We are also immensely proud to be one of the first to provide evidence-based antenatal education in British Sign Language (BSL), making antenatal care more inclusive and accessible for Deaf parents.
Fasting In Pregnancy
In our latest update, we’re excited to introduce a new personalisation feature, fasting in pregnancy. Pregnant women can now select that they are fasting, and when they do, relevant evidence-based information and practices will be integrated throughout the workshop.
The insights gathered from our steering group emphasised the importance of focusing on the challenges of fasting rather than framing the discussion around risks or negatives, which can feel discouraging. By shifting the conversation in this way, women can feel empowered in their choices, whether they decide to fast or not. In response to this RealBirth V4 now includes dedicated sections throughout the programme, delving into its significance and offering practical guidance for those who may be unable to fast due to medical reasons.
A Day to Remember in Manchester
During the launch, we heard from Zoe Wright, Midwife, Founder, and CEO of The Real Birth Company, and Dan Davies, our Technical Project Manager. They shared insights into how RealBirth 4.0 will transform antenatal education, helping midwives and birthing people alike.
With the integration of personalisation features, women can now access relevant, evidence-based antenatal education tailored to their specific needs, all in one place. Additionally, the new real-time dashboard enables healthcare providers to track user engagement, module completion, and demographic data, ensuring support reaches women in areas of high deprivation.
We were also privileged to hear from InsignLanguage, who brought RealBirth 4.0 to life through British Sign Language. Fathea and Jagdeesh shared how this update will positively impact the Deaf community, highlighting the barriers Deaf parents face in maternity care, such as the lack of interpreters and the reliance on family for support.
With RealBirth 4.0, Deaf parents now have greater independence, autonomy, and informed decision-making, ensuring they receive the same high-quality antenatal education as everyone else.
We are honoured to have support from Manisha Sheth from Support Me CIC, bringing invaluable insight into the importance of culturally sensitive antenatal education. Support Me CIC plays a crucial role in advocating for and supporting women from diverse backgrounds, ensuring their unique needs are met during pregnancy and childbirth. Manisha’s perspective underscores the importance of collaboration in addressing maternity inequalities and providing holistic, inclusive support for all birthing people.
We’re so pleased to be sharing this update with you and we hope you’ll support us in closing health inequalities in maternity and ensuring better birthing outcomes for all women.
