🌸 New Service: 1:1 Maternity Peer Support Now Available
We’re excited to launch a new programme offering free 1:1 emotional support to women during pregnancy and after birth — led by trained peer supporters from our community.
Whether you’re an expectant parent feeling a bit overwhelmed, or a healthcare professional looking to connect someone with extra support — this new service is here to bridge the gap.
🤝 What is Maternity Peer Support 1:1?
Our peer support service is designed for women who are:
-
Pregnant or up to 3 months postpartum
-
Not currently matched with a doula
-
Feeling isolated, anxious, uncertain, or simply in need of someone to talk to
Support is provided remotely — via WhatsApp or phone — by our team of trained volunteers. Some of our peer supporters are doulas or breastfeeding counsellors, while others bring their own lived experience as mothers and mental health advocates.
All of them have received specialist training in:
-
Perinatal mental health
-
Safeguarding
-
Active listening
-
Trauma-informed, culturally safe support
👩⚕️ For Midwives and Professionals
This service complements clinical care by offering continuity of emotional support. We work alongside you — not instead of you — to ensure that clients feel held between appointments.
We know midwives are under pressure. If there’s no doula available, or the person doesn’t want one right now, we can still offer meaningful peer support. This can reduce the risk of isolation, build confidence, and flag early signs of distress.
Midwives and health visitors can refer directly or help clients self-refer. We also provide supervision and escalation routes for all peer supporters, so your patients stay safe.

💬 How Peer Support Helps
Peer supporters can:
-
Offer weekly check-ins and encouragement
-
Help reduce feelings of loneliness and fear
-
Talk through questions or concerns about birth, recovery, or feeding
-
Support women in making sense of their care
-
Signpost to services when needed
-
Provide language-appropriate, culturally sensitive care
Even one steady connection can change how someone experiences the perinatal journey.
💜 A Triangle of Care: Midwife – Peer Supporter – Client
We believe in wraparound, relationship-centred support. With the midwife focused on clinical care, and the peer supporter offering emotional connection, we strengthen the network around each person.
🧍♀️ Interested in Support?
If you are pregnant or a new mum and would like to know more, just get in touch. We’ll check whether a doula is available, and if not, we’ll offer you a free peer supporter.
You can talk to them in Polish, Urdu, Spanish or English, at a time that suits you, by phone or WhatsApp.
