About The Training:
Many pregnant and nursing women choose to fast Ramadan.
The aim of our training workshop is to equip health practitioners with recent research findings on maternal, foetal and neonatal outcomes of fasting Ramadan.
We give you the tools to support families in making informed, evidence based decisions whilst being aware of the sanctity of Ramadan for Muslims.
Join us to learn how to practically accommodate Ramadan for patients and have your questions answered.
About The Trainer:
This workshop will be delivered by Shabnam Mujaver (MA, Oxford University, Experimental Psychology).
Since conducting one of the first systematic literature reviews on Ramadan fasting in pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding, in 2013, Shabnam’s work informed research that led to current UK guidelines, published in the BMJ in 2020. She co-authored a comprehensive reference guide for the Muslim community based on this research.
She is author of ‘Heaven Under Your Feet: Pregnancy for Muslim Women’ (2009); sold in tens of countries and available in multiple languages. As a qualified ABM Breastfeeding Peer Supporter, mother of 7 and Islamic scholar, Shabnam has been supporting women, in person, through writing, and online, and continues to evaluate research publications on fasting year on year since, 2013.
